Executive Mentoring

What is Executive Mentoring?
Executive mentoring is a reflective, professional development process designed to impart and transfer knowledge to enhance the leadership and growth of business owners and senior-level executives. Executive mentoring can sometimes be accompanied by or supplemented with structured coaching services to help sharpen particular skills.
Executive mentoring involves an experienced professional generally with leadership experience (the mentor) providing guidance, knowledge, and wisdom to an aspiring business owner or individual working at an executive level (the mentee). The focus is often on personal growth, long-term career development, and navigating social power in the workplace and/or organisational culture. Mentors share their own experiences, act as sounding boards, offer insights, and serve as role models, helping the mentee expand their network, increase strategic thinking, and make better-informed decisions. Mentoring is relationship-based and tends to be less formal, with the mentor acting as a trusted advisor over time.
Executive coaching, on the other hand, is typically a more structured and goal-oriented process where a professional works one-on-one with an executive to develop specific skills, improve performance, and address challenges. A professional providing coaching services does not necessarily have to be from the same industry but commonly uses a systematic approach, including assessments, feedback, and action plans, to enhance the executive’s abilities. Coaching is usually shorter-term and focuses on areas like communication, emotional intelligence, decision-making, and leadership behaviours. It aims to unlock the individual's potential by helping them reflect, gain clarity, and develop strategies to overcome barriers or achieve goals.
While Executive Mentoring provides a long-term, holistic view of an individual's career, coaching focuses more on specific objectives and skillsets, with both approaches offering valuable support for leadership and personal growth.

Ken's personal approach to mentoring and coaching helped me ease into my first senior role at a US multinational. He provided me with useful frameworks and tools to objectively assess challenges at work, and to understand what is expected of my position by our board of directors. I also found his insights as a former APAC head of a global tech company highly relevant to my role as Asia Head of Finance. I cannot recommend enough his services to young senior leaders on track to be a C-suite executive.”
